The power of volunteering (TEDx talk, 9 minutes)
Diana Church's TEDx talk makes a grounded, personal case for why volunteering changes the volunteer as much as the community. Under 10 minutes and worth your time.
Why we're sharing this
Nine minutes that articulate something most volunteers feel but can't quite put into words โ why showing up for others ends up being the thing that changes you.
Most arguments for volunteering start with the community: people need help, and you can provide it. Diana Churchโs TEDx talk takes a different angle. She starts with what volunteering does to the volunteer.
Drawing on personal experience, Church makes the case that volunteering โ especially for young people โ builds skills, relationships, and a sense of purpose that nothing else quite replicates. The talk is emotionally grounded without being sentimental. She doesnโt guilt you into anything. She just describes what happened to her and lets you draw your own conclusions.
At under nine minutes, itโs the kind of video you can watch on a lunch break and still have time to sign up for a shift before you go back to work.

If you want something low-commitment, start with a one-time shift at Food Bank of the Rockies or a Denver Urban Gardens workday.
