Geologic Overlook Trail reroute at Red Rocks Park
Help build a new trail section on the Geologic Overlook Trail at Red Rocks Park, redirecting foot traffic away from fragile plant species. Physical work, big payoff.
Why we picked this
Trail construction at Red Rocks β building a reroute to pull foot traffic off delicate plants and onto a sustainable path. Rock moving, digging, and the satisfaction of seeing a new trail take shape.
The Geologic Overlook Trail at Red Rocks Park has a section where hikers regularly leave the designated path, damaging delicate plant communities in the area. This VOC project constructs a new trail reroute designed to make the correct path obvious and compelling β keeping visitors on track and off the surrounding vegetation.
Tasks include moving rocks, digging, and shaping the trail surface. Itβs physical work, but VOC crew leaders guide every step and no prior experience is required. Ages 16 and up welcome. The location is Red Rocks Park itself β one of the more iconic spots on the Front Range.
Bring water, sturdy boots, and work gloves. VOC provides tools and instruction. The finished reroute will be walked by thousands of visitors who wonβt know it was built by volunteers β which is exactly how good infrastructure works.
