Why we picked this
Eight spots on a Wednesday morning at McCloskey Natural Area β box steps, grade dips, and protecting the riparian corridor before summer hits.
Volunteers at this project will rehabilitate eroded trail sections by building timber box steps, installing grade dips to improve drainage, and reinforcing trail edges to stabilize problem areas. The work focuses on protecting the sensitive riparian corridor around Sheep Creek while maintaining safe, accessible routes through the natural area. The project runs about 6.5 to 7 hours with moderate physical activity.
Bring sturdy footwear, work gloves, layers, and plenty of water. VOC provides tools and instruction. Ages 16+. The natural area is approximately an hour north of Denver in Greeley β carpooling with other volunteers is encouraged.
McCloskey Natural Areaβs trail system serves the community year-round and the riparian habitat along Sheep Creek is ecologically significant. Trail work in May sets the corridor up for summer use with erosion control in place before the dry season.
