Why we picked this
Build one-rock dams and Zuni bowls to slow water flow and help native plants recover along a stream at Majestic View Nature Center. Currently full, but worth checking back — spots occasionally open up.
Volunteers build simple rock-and-wood structures — one-rock dams, Zuni bowls, and wicker weirs — to slow water flow and support vegetation recovery along a stream at Majestic View Nature Center in Arvada. The work involves moving and placing rocks, weaving materials, and stabilizing the channel. No prior experience is required, and VOC staff walk the group through the techniques.
It’s a quarter-mile hike from parking to the worksite, and the project is rated moderate to difficult given the lifting and digging involved. Family-friendly and 2WD accessible; bring your own lunch and expect the project to continue through light rain.
Ages 16 and up. The project is currently listed as full, but VOC projects sometimes open back up as plans shift — check the signup link for current availability. A 2026 liability waiver is required.
