Why we picked this

Two days of hands-on reroute work on the Hogback Trail west side — expanding and finishing a new alignment that serves both hikers and equestrians in the Headwaters area near Granby.

The Hogback Trail near Granby is getting a new alignment, and volunteers are doing the work. Over two days (Saturday–Sunday, June 27–28), crews will expand, define, and finish the reroute on the trail’s west side — digging tread, moving soil and rocks, and shaping drainage to build a route that holds up over time for hikers and horse traffic alike. Saturday runs 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM; Sunday wraps at 2:00 PM.

The Hogback sits within the Headwaters Extensive Recreation Management Area west of Granby. The project is rated moderate to difficult — expect full workdays on uneven terrain with significant digging and material moving. No previous trail experience is needed; VOC staff lead the crew and provide all tools and instruction. If you attended the Trail Skills Training on June 26, this is a direct application of those techniques.

Volunteers must be at least 16 years old; anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult 21 or older. Camping is available Friday and Saturday nights at no cost. Bring your own food and water for each workday. The exact meeting location is provided to registered volunteers in advance.
