Why we picked this
Building trail from scratch — clearing vegetation and digging to grade on a new Hidden Valley reroute near Boulder. A full day of real physical work with visible results.
This VOC project constructs a new trail reroute at Hidden Valley near Boulder. Volunteers clear vegetation to define the trail corridor and dig and remove dirt to bring the surface to proper grade. It’s full-day physical work (8am–4pm) that involves moderate lifting, digging, shoveling, and moving soil and rocks. The site is about a half-mile hike from the parking area through a sun-exposed section.
Trail construction from scratch is satisfying in a specific way — you’re building something that will last years and be used by thousands of people. No prior trail building experience is required; VOC staff lead the project and assign volunteers to tasks based on ability.
Age 16+. Registration deadline is September 14. The project site is in the Boulder Valley Ranch area; VOC provides detailed directions upon registration. Bring your own water, sun protection, and sturdy boots.
