Why we picked this

Planting vegetables at the Governor's Mansion — produce harvested in fall goes directly to Denver food banks. Ages 8 and up, and you may leave with seeds or seedlings.

Volunteers help plant vegetable gardens at Colorado’s Governor’s Mansion under the guidance of Grow Local Colorado staff. The gardens are harvested in fall and the produce is donated to food banks and community organizations around Denver. You’ll learn which vegetables are being planted and why they’re placed where they are — and may receive seeds or seedlings to take home.

Ages 8 and up are welcome, with youth under 16 accompanied by an adult 21 or older. A background check is required and must be submitted at least two weeks before the event — the check is hand-signed and submitted in black ink, so plan accordingly.

Register through the VOC website. The Governor’s Mansion is at 400 E 8th Ave in Denver’s Capitol Hill neighborhood.
