Why we picked this

For volunteers ready to step up and lead trail crews — a hybrid program combining online prep with two days of hands-on field training at Golden Gate Canyon. Earns a leadership credential recognized by Colorado Parks and Wildlife.

VOC’s Crew Leader for Trails program prepares experienced volunteers to lead trail maintenance teams safely and effectively. The curriculum covers trail maintenance fundamentals, tool safety protocols, risk assessment, crew motivation, and how to communicate desired outcomes to volunteers with varying skill levels. Training blends online modules (completed before arrival) with two full days of classroom sessions, field exercises, and role-playing at Golden Gate Canyon State Park (June 6–7).

Cost is $100 per person. CPW staff and select volunteers may qualify for a discount code. Both days are required. Participants should be prepared to bring their own food and water.

Ages 16 and older; youth under 18 must be accompanied by an adult 21+. Not wheelchair accessible. Spot is confirmed after payment. Contact VOC for scholarship information.
