Why we picked this

A second crack at repairing Button Rock Preserve's eroding South Cove Trail — the overnight Saturday session already filled up, but Sunday day-shift spots are still open.

This is the second scheduled workday on the South Cove Trail restoration at Button Rock Preserve, where roughly 720 feet of trail has eroded and is collapsing into the reservoir. Volunteers define stable trail tread, improve drainage, build small reroutes, and assist with retaining wall construction to stop further collapse. It’s the same project as June’s session, continuing the work with a fresh crew.

The full project runs as an overnight camping trip Saturday and Sunday, with meals and campsites included — but the Saturday shift is already full. A Sunday day-shift option remains open for volunteers who want to help without the overnight commitment. Expect a difficult physical workday with heavy material handling on steep terrain; cell service is spotty and pets aren’t allowed.

Ages 16 and up; volunteers under 18 need an adult 21 or older with them. 4 of 35 Sunday spots remain — check the signup link for current availability.
