Trail maintenance at Aurora Reservoir with VOC
Spread crushed gravel, build drainage features, and construct rock turnpikes to restore a worn 5K trail and protect wetlands at Aurora Reservoir. Full-day project.
Why we picked this
A full day of trail restoration at Aurora Reservoir β spreading gravel, building drainage features, and installing turnpikes through a wetland corridor. Bring water, snacks, and sturdy boots.
The trail at Aurora Reservoir gets heavy use, and that wear shows up as eroded sections and degraded drainage β both of which push foot traffic off the path and into the wetlands alongside it. This VOC workday focuses on reversing that: spreading crushed gravel on worn segments, building drainage structures, and constructing rock turnpikes through the wetland corridor to redirect traffic appropriately.
Shifts run 8 AM to 4 PM on Saturday, May 9. Ages 14 and up are welcome; volunteers under 16 must be accompanied by an adult (21+). Bring water, snacks, and sturdy boots. Work gloves are helpful. VOC provides tools, instruction, and leadership on-site. Registration closes May 7.
Aurora Reservoir draws a lot of visitors β around two million annually β which means volunteer maintenance here has real leverage. Protecting the wetland areas doesnβt require restricting access; it requires putting the trail where it needs to go and making it hold up.
