UPchieve connects low-income high school students with free, on-demand tutors across math, science, SAT/ACT prep, and college essay coaching. As a volunteer coach, you log into the platform whenever you have time, mark yourself available in the subjects you’re comfortable with, and wait for a student to send a request. Sessions are live, text-based or video-based, and typically run 20 to 45 minutes. There’s no weekly scheduling to manage — you show up when it works for you.
To get started, you’ll create a free account, select your subjects, and pass a short subject-knowledge assessment. The assessments are straightforward if you’re comfortable with the material — think high school and early college level. UPchieve provides onboarding guides and a practice session so you know what to expect before you take your first real call. Background checks are not required.
