National Public Lands Day native plant reseeding at Rocky Mountain National Park
National Public Lands Day: reseed burned Rocky Mountain National Park terrain near Deer Mountain and Lily Lake with native plants and mulch. 18+, free.
Why we picked this
National Public Lands Day timing means bigger crews than a typical stewardship day — more hands on the same fire-recovery reseeding work.
In honor of National Public Lands Day, volunteers assist with native plant reseeding to help restore plant communities and habitat after fire, at sites including Deer Mountain and Lily Lake. Tasks include hiking short distances up to several miles, scarifying soil, hand seeding, and spreading mulch across burn scars left by fuels-reduction work. Expect full sun, rain, or wind — conditions at this elevation shift fast.
Meet in the outdoor plaza at Beaver Meadows Visitor Center, 1000 U.S. 36, Estes Park; volunteers are shuttled to work sites from there.
Bring layered clothing, rain gear, sun protection, long sleeves and pants, sturdy closed-toe shoes, lunch, snacks, at least two liters of water, and a day pack. Bathrooms may be inaccessible during most activities. Open to volunteers 18 and up.
