Kawuneeche revegetation volunteer day at Rocky Mountain National Park
Replant native forbs and grasses at a west-side RMNP construction site with Rocky Mountain Conservancy. Mulching and planting near Grand Lake, 18+.
Why we picked this
The site being replanted was disturbed by construction of the park's new packing barn β you're helping close that loop by getting native forbs and grasses back into ground that's currently bare.
Volunteers spend the day restoring native plant communities on Rocky Mountain National Parkβs west side, replanting an area disturbed during construction of the new West Packing Barn. The work is straightforward: spreading mulch and planting native forbs and grasses β yarrow, spreading fleabane, bottlebrush squirreltail β at roughly 8,000 feet elevation, using shovels, pitchforks, and wheelbarrows that the conservancy provides.
Expect kneeling, stooping, bending, and light-to-moderate lifting of plant trays over the course of the day. Meet at the outdoor plaza at Kawuneeche Visitor Center, 16018 U.S. 34, Grand Lake β the work site is a short carpool away.
Work gloves, sunscreen, kneeling pads, and drinking water are supplied, but bring layers, rain gear, sun protection, a day pack, lunch, and snacks. Open to volunteers 18 and up.
