Habitat Heroes volunteer day at Rocky Mountain National Park
Learn to identify and remove invasive plants in Rocky Mountain National Park. Shuttle from Beaver Meadows Visitor Center, six hours, 18+, free.
Why we picked this
Staff teach plant identification on-site before anyone starts pulling, so this is a real skill you leave with, not just a day of yanking weeds.
This Habitat Heroes session combats invasive species threatening Rocky Mountain National Park. Volunteers learn identification and removal techniques alongside park staff, then spend the day restoring native vegetation and supporting wildlife habitat across meadows and forest.
The day is moderately strenuous — several miles of walking across varied terrain, using hand tools like shovels and pruners. Meet in the outdoor plaza at Beaver Meadows Visitor Center, 1000 U.S. 36, Estes Park; vans shuttle volunteers into the park from there.
Bring layered clothing and rain gear, sun protection, long sleeves and pants, sturdy closed-toe shoes, lunch, snacks, and at least two liters of water. Bathroom access is limited on site, and full-day attendance is expected. Open to volunteers 18 and up.
