Noxious weed removal at Elk Meadow Park
Pull invasive thistle and other noxious weeds from trails near Elk Meadow Park in Evergreen — a morning of hands-on habitat work, tools and gloves provided.
Why we picked this
Thistle and other noxious weeds crowd out native plants along Jeffco trails — this crew spends a Friday morning pulling them by hand near Elk Meadow Park.
This three-hour project meets at the trailhead near Buchanan Park Recreation Center to pull thistle and other noxious weeds from the land around Elk Meadow Park in Evergreen. It’s straightforward hand-removal work — no experience needed — that keeps invasive species from choking out the native grasses and wildflowers that hold these hillsides together.
Wear closed-toe, sturdy shoes and clothes that can get dirty. Bring work gloves, at least two liters of water, snacks, sunscreen, and a hat — the terrain is mostly open and exposed. Pack any personal medications you might need; a backpack helps carry everything. No pets. Volunteers under 18 need a guardian to sign the waiver in advance.
