Why we picked this

Jeffco Open Space's Earth Day event feeds you breakfast and lunch while you do trail restoration work at two parks โ€” it's a full-day outdoor commitment with a lot of company.

Jefferson County Open Space hosts a full Earth Day restoration event across two parks: South Table Mountain Park (starting at 8:00 AM) and Van Bibber Park (starting at 9:30 AM). Volunteers will work on trail improvements and restoration projects including native plant seeding, planting, weeding, and trail work. Shuttle service is provided between sites. Breakfast and lunch are included, along with a raffle.

The entire program takes place outdoors, so dress for the weather โ€” April in the foothills can mean anything from sun to snow. Layers and waterproofing are a good idea. Sturdy shoes or boots are required. Volunteers under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Register through the Offero calendar at the link above.

Both parks are part of Jefferson Countyโ€™s network of over 60,000 acres of open space, and trail restoration work here directly affects the hiking and trail running experience for the hundreds of thousands of people who use these parks annually.
