Why we picked this

Three hours of concrete food bank work starting at 1 PM — same sorting and packing as the morning shift, for people who need to start their day first.

Afternoon shifts at Food Bank of the Rockies run Monday through Saturday from 1:00 to 4:00 PM. Volunteers sort donated food, check for damaged items, and pack products for distribution to food pantries and partner agencies across Colorado and Wyoming. Up to 20 volunteers are taken per afternoon slot — smaller and often quieter than the morning crews.

Wear comfortable clothes you can move in, closed-toe shoes, and plan to be on your feet for the duration. Lifting up to 30 pounds is part of the work. Volunteers ages 10 and up are welcome; under-16s need an accompanying adult. Register through VolunteerHub ahead of time — no walk-ins are accepted. The facility is at 20600 E 38th Ave in Aurora, with free parking on site.

Food Bank of the Rockies moves over 100 million pounds of food annually, and volunteer labor is central to that. If the morning shift doesn’t fit, the afternoon shift gets the same work done.
