Why we picked this

Open six days a week with morning and afternoon shifts โ€” this is the easiest recurring volunteer commitment in the Denver area. Show up, sort food, go home.

Food Bank of the Rockies runs volunteer shifts Monday through Saturday at their main distribution center in Aurora. Morning shifts run 8:45 AM to noon, afternoon shifts 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, and the third Saturday of every month has a special 8:00 AM start. Youโ€™ll be sorting and inspecting food donations, packing boxes, moving product, or doing data entry โ€” the specific task depends on whatโ€™s needed that day.

The warehouse is an active industrial space. Wear closed-toe shoes (sneakers or work boots) and clothes you donโ€™t mind getting dusty. Many roles require standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 30 pounds, but let a coordinator know about any physical limitations and theyโ€™ll find something that works.

Ages 10 and up are welcome โ€” under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Groups up to 30 can volunteer together on morning shifts (20 for afternoons). Register in advance through VolunteerHub โ€” walk-ins are not accepted. Arrive at least 15 minutes before your shift. Student service hour paperwork will be signed at the end of your shift.
