Why we picked this

First Saturday of August — a natural date for teams, friend groups, or families to pick up a warehouse shift that doesn't require a weekday commitment. Three hours of sorting before noon, then the rest of August weekends starts.

This Saturday morning food sort at Food Bank of the Rockies in Aurora opens August with warehouse work that doesn’t touch anyone’s work schedule. Volunteers sort through donated food on the warehouse floor, inspecting product quality and dates, removing items that can’t be distributed, and repacking bulk goods into family-sized portions for the distribution network serving partner agencies across Colorado and the Rocky Mountain region.

Work is physical and active for the full shift: standing, lifting boxes, pushing loaded carts, and working the sorting line alongside other volunteers. Closed-toe shoes are required in the warehouse. Layering is a good idea for the 8:45 AM warehouse start. The shift ends at noon.

Saturday morning shifts hold up to 30 volunteers — one of the larger group capacities in Food Bank of the Rockies’ volunteer program. Teams, faith groups, corporate groups, and families are all welcome to register together through VolunteerHub. Advance registration is required — no walk-ins. Minimum age 10; anyone under 16 must be accompanied by a supervising adult throughout the shift.
