Why we picked this
Wednesday morning: a focused three hours on the sorting floor with clear results. The product moved today feeds into a distribution network that stretches across Colorado and into neighboring states.
At this Wednesday morning shift, volunteers sort food donations on the warehouse floor at Food Bank of the Rockies in Aurora, checking product quality and expiration dates, pulling damaged or expired items, and repacking bulk goods into family-sized portions for distribution. Everything processed here goes to partner agencies supplying food pantries across Colorado and the broader Rocky Mountain region.
The shift is physically active throughout: standing, lifting boxes, moving carts loaded with product, and maintaining the pace of the sorting line. Closed-toe shoes are required β warehouse safety standards donβt permit sandals or open-toed footwear. Layering is helpful for the early morning warehouse environment. Shift: 8:45 AM to noon.
Groups up to 30 may register together through VolunteerHub. Walk-ins are not accepted β advance registration is required. Volunteers must be at least 10 years old; anyone under 16 must be supervised by an adult throughout the shift.
