Why we picked this
Wrap up the week with a Friday morning shift — you're on the sorting floor moving real tonnage, and you're done before noon with tangible evidence of what your time produced.
At this Friday morning shift, volunteers sort food donations on the warehouse floor at Food Bank of the Rockies in Aurora, checking for expired or damaged product, consolidating items, and repacking bulk goods into family-appropriate quantities. This product feeds into the distribution network supplying partner agencies across Colorado and the Rocky Mountain region.
Plan on physical work: standing, lifting, loading carts, and maintaining the pace of the sorting line throughout the shift. Closed-toe shoes are required — no sandals allowed in the warehouse. Layering is helpful for the early morning start. The shift runs 8:45 AM to noon.
Up to 30 volunteers can register per shift, and group registration is fully supported. All sign-ups go through VolunteerHub in advance — no walk-ins. Minimum age is 10; volunteers under 16 must be accompanied by a supervising adult for the full shift.
