Why we picked this
Wednesday morning shift — clear physical output, measurable weight moved, finished before noon. The product you sort goes directly into the distribution pipeline serving Colorado and surrounding states.
Volunteers at this Wednesday morning shift work directly on the warehouse floor at Food Bank of the Rockies in Aurora, sorting food donations, pulling expired or damaged items, and repacking bulk product into family-sized quantities. The sorted food is distributed to partner agencies and food pantries throughout Colorado and the broader Rocky Mountain region.
The work is consistently physical: standing for the full 3-hour shift, lifting boxes, loading carts, and working a sorting line alongside other volunteers. Closed-toe shoes are mandatory in the warehouse. Layering is recommended for the early morning start. Shift runs 8:45 AM to noon.
Groups of up to 30 volunteers can register together through VolunteerHub. Walk-in volunteers are not accepted — advance registration is required. Volunteers must be at least 10 years old; those under 16 must be accompanied throughout the shift by a supervising adult.
