Why we picked this
An afternoon time slot that works if mornings don't β same warehouse scale, same volume of food moving through the sorting line, just three hours starting at 1 PM.
Volunteers at this afternoon shift work on the warehouse floor at Food Bank of the Rockies in Aurora, sorting through donated food, checking dates and product quality, consolidating inventory, and repacking bulk goods into family-sized portions for distribution. The scale of the operation is significant β this facility moves food to partner agencies across Colorado and neighboring Rocky Mountain states.
The work is physical and consistent throughout the shift: standing, lifting boxes, pushing loaded carts through the warehouse, and keeping pace with the sorting line. Closed-toe shoes are required in the warehouse. The afternoon shift runs 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, making it accessible for those whose mornings arenβt free.
Groups of up to 20 volunteers can register for afternoon shifts. Advance registration through VolunteerHub is required β no walk-ins. Volunteers must be at least 10 years old; anyone under 16 must have a supervising adult for the duration of the shift.
