Why we picked this
Friday afternoon ends the distribution week β the afternoon crew sorts the last wave of the week's incoming donations, and that product moves out to partner agencies at the start of next week.
This Friday afternoon shift at Food Bank of the Rockies in Aurora closes out the week on the warehouse sorting floor. Volunteers process food donations β checking dates and product quality, pulling items that canβt be distributed, and repacking bulk goods into family-appropriate portions that feed into the distribution network serving partner agencies throughout Colorado.
The shift is consistently physical: standing, lifting boxes, pushing carts loaded with product, and maintaining the pace of the sorting line. Closed-toe shoes are required; warehouse safety rules do not allow sandals or open-toed footwear. Shift runs 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
Up to 20 volunteers per afternoon shift. Group registration is available through VolunteerHub. All volunteers must register in advance β no walk-ins accepted. Minimum age is 10; anyone under 16 must have a supervising adult for the duration of the shift.
