Why we picked this

Thursday afternoon at a major Colorado food distribution center — you're moving product that reaches food pantries across the state. The afternoon shift is the same warehouse, same volume, different clock.

Volunteers at this Thursday afternoon shift join the sorting floor at Food Bank of the Rockies in Aurora, working through food donations — checking product quality and dates, removing unusable items, consolidating inventory by category, and repacking bulk goods into family-sized portions for distribution. The facility supplies partner agencies throughout Colorado and neighboring Rocky Mountain states.

The work is physically active throughout: standing, lifting, loading carts, and working the sorting line for three hours. Closed-toe shoes are mandatory; no sandals or open-toed footwear in the warehouse. Shift: 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM.

Up to 20 volunteers per afternoon shift. Group registration is supported through VolunteerHub. Advance registration is required — no walk-ins. Minimum age 10; volunteers under 16 must have a supervising adult present for the full shift.
