Why we picked this

A Tuesday evening walk through Huston Lake Park focusing on park trees and native plants — DUG's urban herbalism series moves outside Posner Center and into one of Denver's lakeside parks.

Denver Urban Gardens’ Urban Plant Walk series moves to Huston Lake Park in August, where the focus is trees and the plants that grow in and around Denver’s urban green spaces. Participants learn to identify common park trees, understory plants, and native species that thrive in Denver’s high plains environment.

The walk is led by a DUG educator and runs from 6:00 to 8:00 PM — two hours of walking and learning outdoors. Dress for an August evening and bring water. Good walking shoes are helpful.

Huston Lake Park is in the Mar Lee neighborhood of southwest Denver, near Mississippi Ave and Lowell Blvd. The park circles Huston Lake with paved and unpaved paths. No plant identification experience needed; the walk is accessible to curious beginners.
