Volunteer at Planting a Sensory Garden workshop at Posner Center
Help run a hands-on therapeutic gardening workshop on designing and planting sensory gardens — participants learn to choose plants for texture, scent, sound, and color.
Why we picked this
Help run a workshop on designing sensory gardens — participants learn which plants stimulate smell, touch, sound, and sight for therapeutic gardening purposes. Part of DUG's therapeutic horticulture series.
DUG’s Planting a Sensory Garden workshop teaches participants how to design a garden space that engages all the senses — plants chosen for their texture, fragrance, sound in the wind, and visual interest. The approach comes from therapeutic horticulture, where garden design is used intentionally to support wellbeing.
Participants learn plant selection, layout principles, and how to adapt the approach for different garden sizes, including container gardens and community plots. Volunteers help with setup, support participants during the workshop activities, and assist the DUG educator leading the class. The session runs from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on a Thursday evening.
Posner Center is DUG’s main workshop venue in Denver. The sensory garden workshop connects directly to DUG’s on-the-ground therapeutic garden projects, including the construction work volunteers have been doing at Samuels Community Garden.
