Earth Day garden workday at North Arvada Middle School
Celebrate Earth Day by prepping a school community garden for planting season — weeding, turning compost, and spreading it over beds before students start growing.
Why we picked this
Earth Day at a school garden: weeding, turning compost, and spreading it over beds that students will plant in the weeks ahead.
This Earth Day workday gets the North Arvada Middle School community garden ready for the growing season. Volunteers will pull weeds, turn compost, and spread it over the garden beds — straightforward seasonal prep that directly sets up what students will plant. Nineteen volunteer spots are available and the event is family-friendly and open to all ages.
Wear closed-toe shoes and clothes appropriate for getting soil on them. Bring layers for the April morning and a reusable water bottle. Sun protection recommended. The school is in Arvada, just west of Denver.
Denver Urban Gardens partners with schools across the metro area to give students hands-on growing experience. The Northside Nasturtiums program at North Arvada Middle School is one of those partnerships — what volunteers prep on Earth Day is what students will tend through the rest of the school year.
