Why we picked this
Facilitate activity stations for a preschool chickens-in-the-garden class at Montessori Wild Pines — expect a lot of energy and small hands touching everything. Volunteers must be 18 or older.
Denver Urban Gardens’ youth education programs bring garden-based learning into Denver schools, and this one is for the youngest learners. The “Peck, Scratch, Squawk: Chickens in the Garden” class introduces children ages 3–5 to backyard chickens through hands-on activity rotations at Montessori School of Wild Pines.
Volunteers work alongside a DUG Youth Educator to facilitate activity stations, helping small groups of preschoolers engage with the class material. The session runs from 9:15 to 11:30 AM, about two hours and fifteen minutes. Volunteers must be 18 or older for this one.
The school is at 2695 S Jersey St in the Virginia Village neighborhood. If you enjoy working with young children and want to see what garden-based education looks like in practice, this is a window into DUG’s youth programming.
