Why we picked this

Kids in grades K–5 rotate through three activity stations with a DUG educator — volunteers run the stations and watch things click for the students who get it.

Denver Urban Gardens educators lead Seeds of Wonder, a hands-on gardening and nature program for elementary students. At Johnson Elementary, the class involves an introduction followed by three activity rotation stations — volunteers facilitate the stations while the DUG educator leads the session. Two volunteer spots are available, and the educator will connect with volunteers ahead of time to share details.

This is an afternoon shift starting right after school. Comfortable clothes are fine. The school is in Southwest Denver and accessible by transit. No prior teaching or gardening experience is needed — the educator provides all materials and direction.

Seeds of Wonder gives students a direct connection to where food comes from and how plants grow. Volunteer facilitators are what make the three-station rotation work — without them, the class would need to run as a single group rather than in active parallel stations.
