Support bilingual youth garden class at Johnson Elementary — May 21
Help a DUG educator run a Seeds of Wonder hands-on garden class for K–5 students at Johnson Elementary. Facilitate one of three activity rotation stations.
Why we picked this
Volunteer support for a DUG garden class at Johnson Elementary — facilitate hands-on activities for K–5 students who are learning to grow food. Afternoon session, no teaching background required.
Denver Urban Gardens’ Seeds of Wonder program brings hands-on garden education directly to elementary school students. Volunteer supporters help a DUG youth educator manage the activity rotation stations — guiding small groups through planting, soil exploration, and seasonal garden concepts.
No teaching background is needed; DUG staff lead the session and volunteers assist with station facilitation. The class is bilingual, so Spanish speakers are especially welcome, but English-only volunteers are a great help too.
The session runs in the afternoon (3:45 PM) at Johnson Elementary in the Harvey Park South neighborhood. A single shift is about an hour and leaves the students having touched soil and planted something.
