Garden leader training: food donation and gleaning
Training for Denver Urban Gardens leaders on reducing food waste at community gardens — fence boxes, food donation, and end-of-season gleaning.
Why we picked this
A practical training on getting extra harvest to people who need it — fence boxes, Fresh Food Connect, and gleaning technique, with a mini donation bin built on site.
This Garden Leader training focuses on cutting food waste at community gardens as the growing season winds down. Topics include setting up fence boxes, connecting with Fresh Food Connect and local hunger-relief organizations, running free farm stands, and gleaning technique for harvests that come in after water access is limited late in the season. Participants build a mini donation bin as part of the session.
The training runs two hours starting at 11:00 AM at Lowell Street Community Garden. It’s aimed at DUG Garden Leaders, Steering Committee members, and Tree Keepers, though prospective leaders can request to attend.
Denver Urban Gardens’ 180-plus community gardens produce more food than any single plot holder can use, and sessions like this one turn that surplus into something that reaches more neighbors instead of going to waste.
