Why we picked this

A food forest workday at a Denver school β€” pathway building, sheet-mulching, and planting in an afternoon. Seven spots left, and the work sticks around for students to use all year.

Volunteers help create a new pathway through the food forest at Doull Elementary School in southwest Denver, plus spread wood mulch and do sheet-mulching. Sheet-mulching suppresses weeds and builds soil health over time β€” it’s practical ecological work with lasting results.

Seven volunteer spots available. Ages 13 and up. Closed-toe shoes, work clothes, layers, and a reusable water bottle are recommended. Gloves provided. Note: this site is not wheelchair accessible.

The food forest is at Doull Elementary, 2520 S Utica St in Denver’s Harvey Park neighborhood. Register through the DUG volunteer portal.
