Why we picked this
The June Walk the Wetlands is in full breeding season — cottonwoods leafed out, herons nesting nearby, the South Platte corridor at its most active. Free, $5 donation welcome.
Walk the Wetlands is Denver Audubon’s signature bird walk along the South Platte River corridor at Kingery Nature Center. The June edition catches early summer breeding season — resident herons, kingfishers, warblers, and flycatchers are actively nesting in the cottonwood and willow habitat along the river.
The walk is approximately three miles, guided by an experienced birder who helps participants identify what they’re seeing and hearing. All skill levels are welcome. A $5 donation is appreciated but not required.
Kingery Nature Center is at 11280 Waterton Rd in Littleton, roughly 30 minutes from central Denver. The walk starts at 7am and runs until about 10:30. Register through the Audubon event calendar.
