Birding at South Platte Park — June guided walk
Free guided bird walk along the South Platte River co-led by Denver Audubon and Denver Field Ornithologists. Flat trails, all skill levels. Jun 19, 8–11 AM.
Why we picked this
By mid-June the South Platte corridor has nesting herons, kingfishers, and a full summer resident complement — a good walk for anyone who missed the spring migration window.
Denver Audubon and Denver Field Ornithologists co-lead a three-hour bird walk at the South Platte Park C-470 trailhead in mid-June. The river corridor hosts nesting herons, kingfishers, yellow warblers, and various grassland species through the summer. It’s a reliable spot for good looks at nesting behavior once migration is over.
Free and open to all skill levels. Flat terrain, accessible for most fitness levels. Bring binoculars if you have them.
Register through the Audubon event calendar. The C-470 trailhead is in Littleton near the confluence of the South Platte River and Chatfield Reservoir.
