Why we picked this

A Pride Month bird walk at Bluff Lake — Denver Audubon's way of making sure the birding community is explicitly welcoming. The urban wetland preserve is a good spot for an evening walk, with the lake and grassland active at dusk.

Denver Audubon hosts a Pride Month bird walk at Bluff Lake Nature Center — a one-hour evening outing designed to be an explicitly welcoming space for LGBTQ+ birders and allies. The birding community is for everyone, and this walk is part of Denver Audubon’s ongoing effort to reflect that.

Bluff Lake is a 123-acre wetland preserve in east Denver, tucked between Stapleton neighborhoods and the highway. The evening hour brings out herons along the shoreline, swallows working the water surface, and the grassland areas active before dark. The walk covers the main trail loop around the lake.

Meet at the Bluff Lake Nature Center entrance at 11255 E. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. The walk is one hour, free to attend (with a $5 suggested donation supporting Audubon programs). No birding experience required.
