Why we picked this

Two hours of hands-on citizen science: learn iNaturalist, then immediately use it to document real wildlife at Kingery Nature Center. The observations you make here go into a global database.

This event combines iNaturalist app training with an immediate application: a mini bioblitz at Kingery Nature Center to document local wildlife for the City Nature Challenge. The first part covers how to use iNaturalist, how identifications work, and what good observation data looks like. The second part puts it into practice outdoors.

No prior experience with iNaturalist or wildlife identification is required. Bring a smartphone with the iNaturalist app installed if possible (you can set it up on-site as well). The event is free and runs from 9 to 11 AM. Register through the Denver Audubon events page.

The City Nature Challenge is an annual global bioblitz that produces real scientific data — observations submitted during the event contribute to biodiversity research and are reviewed by naturalists worldwide. Kingery Nature Center in late May is productive: pollinators are active, birds are breeding, and there’s a lot to find in two hours.
