Why we picked this

American Dippers dive into fast mountain streams to feed — unlike any other songbird in Colorado. This free walk puts you streamside at Lair o' the Bear with a guide who knows where to look.

American Dippers are North America’s only truly aquatic songbird — they dive into swift mountain streams and walk along the bottom to forage. This free walk at Lair o’ the Bear Park along Bear Creek is one of the best spots near Denver to observe them. Denver Audubon guides the walk and helps participants find and identify dippers and other streamside mountain species.

The walk runs three hours starting at 7am. All skill levels welcome — no prior birding experience needed. Lair of the Bear is along Bear Creek in the foothills west of Denver, approximately 40 minutes from the city.

Register through the Denver Audubon event calendar. Co-sponsored with Denver Field Ornithologists.
