Evening Bird Break at City Park — free September bird walk in Denver
Free guided evening bird walk at Denver's City Park. Early fall migrants mix with resident waterfowl on the park lakes at dusk. Sep 3, 6–8 PM MDT.
Why we picked this
City Park's two lakes sit minutes from downtown, but by early September they're already picking up transient waterfowl headed south — proof that migration doesn't require leaving city limits.
Denver Audubon’s Evening Bird Break comes to City Park for a free two-hour guided walk around the park’s lakes and surrounding trees. Early September marks the start of fall migration season along the Front Range, and the lakes here tend to pick up transient waterfowl alongside the usual resident geese and ducks.
The flat, paved paths around the lakes make this one of the more accessible Evening Bird Break locations. Guides help identify what’s moving through and point out behavior differences between residents settling in for the season and migrants just passing through.
No experience required. Free to attend with a $5 suggested donation. Meet in City Park at 6 PM.
