Birdability Week: Accessible Birding at Waterton Canyon — free walk, Oct 24
Free accessible bird walk along Waterton Canyon's flat, wide gravel road for Birdability Week. Suited to wheelchairs, walkers, and slower paces. Oct 24, 8:30–11 AM MDT.
Why we picked this
The canyon's flat, wide gravel road was already one of the more accessible trails around Denver — this walk just makes sure the birding matches that.
This free walk along Waterton Canyon caps off Birdability Week, a national effort to open birding up to people with mobility issues, chronic illness, and other disabilities. The canyon’s access road is flat, wide, and hard-packed gravel, making it one of the more manageable routes in the area for wheelchairs, walkers, and slower paces.
The canyon corridor supports a good mix of raptors, canyon wrens, and waterfowl along Waterton Creek, with bighorn sheep also commonly seen on the surrounding slopes. A Denver Audubon guide leads the group at an unhurried pace with regular stops.
Free and open to all skill levels and mobility needs. The walk runs 8:30 to 11 AM. Bring binoculars and water. The trailhead is at 12102 N. Waterton Rd. in Littleton.
