Evening Bird Break at Belmar Park — free summer bird walk in Lakewood
Free guided evening bird walk at Heritage Lakewood Belmar Park. Spot summer residents and late-evening activity along the lake. Jun 17, 6–8 PM MDT.
Why we picked this
Evening walks at Belmar Park catch birds in a different mode than morning outings — swallows working the lake surface, herons hunting at dusk, and the park's resident songbirds settling in for the night.
Denver Audubon’s Evening Bird Break series moves the birding experience to the cooler hours after 6 PM, when Belmar Park’s lake and surrounding green space come alive with a different cast of characters than you’d find at dawn. Heritage Lakewood Belmar Park offers open water, shoreline, and shade trees — good habitat for waterfowl, herons, swallows, and summer-resident songbirds.
The walk runs two hours, led by an Audubon volunteer guide. No previous birding experience needed. Bring binoculars if you have them, but the guide will help point out birds for those who don’t. A $5 donation to support Denver Audubon’s programs is appreciated but not required.
Meet at the main entrance at 801 S. Yarrow St. in Lakewood. Evening light can make bird identification a slightly different challenge than morning walks, which is part of what makes these outings interesting for birders of any skill level.
