Evening Bird Break at Belmar Park — free July bird walk in Lakewood
Free guided evening bird walk at Heritage Lakewood Belmar Park. Summer waterfowl and songbirds active at dusk along the park lake. Jul 1, 6–8 PM MDT.
Why we picked this
By July, Belmar Park's resident birds are in full summer mode — breeding pairs defending territory, fledglings following parents around the lake, and swallows hunting insects over the water at dusk.
Denver Audubon’s Evening Bird Break returns to Heritage Lakewood Belmar Park on July 1st for a free two-hour guided walk. The park’s combination of open water, shoreline, and surrounding trees makes it a productive spot year-round, and summer evenings bring a particular rhythm to bird activity — songbirds returning to roost, herons setting up along the lake edges, and swallows working the surface for insects.
July is fledgling season across the Front Range, which means many species have family groups visible: young birds following parents and calling for food, adults actively feeding, and territorial behavior still ongoing. It’s a different experience from the high-movement energy of spring migration.
No birding experience required. Bring binoculars if you have them. A $5 suggested donation supports Denver Audubon programs, but the walk is free. Meet at 801 S. Yarrow St. in Lakewood at 6 PM.
