Evening Bird Break at Belmar Park — free August bird walk in Lakewood
Free guided evening bird walk at Heritage Lakewood Belmar Park. Early fall migrants begin mixing with resident waterfowl at dusk. Aug 26, 6–8 PM MDT.
Why we picked this
Late August is a hinge point at Belmar — the last of the resident fledglings are still around while the first southbound migrants start passing through, so you get both worlds in one two-hour walk.
Denver Audubon’s Evening Bird Break returns to Heritage Lakewood Belmar Park for a free two-hour guided walk. By late August, the park’s resident birds are winding down their breeding season while the earliest fall migrants begin trickling through the shoreline and surrounding trees.
The mix of open water and cover makes Belmar reliable for both waterfowl and songbirds at dusk, when activity tends to pick up as the day cools off. Guides help spot and identify what’s around, whether that’s a lingering family group or a new arrival passing through.
No birding experience required. Bring binoculars if you have them. Free to attend with a $5 suggested donation. Meet at 801 S. Yarrow St. in Lakewood at 6 PM.
