Why we picked this
Co-sponsored with the Colorado Mountain Club, this walk pairs birding with conversation with a published local author — a nice entry point into late-fall raptor season at the refuge.
Denver Audubon partners with the Colorado Mountain Club for a free guided bird walk at Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge, led alongside author Norm Lewis. The refuge’s grasslands and lakes typically bring in raptors and waterfowl as temperatures drop heading into November.
Beyond the birding, the walk includes conversation with Lewis about his book and local birding, making it a good fit for both wildlife watchers and readers.
Free and open to all experience levels. The walk runs 9 AM to noon at the refuge in Commerce City.
