Denver Animal Shelter foster volunteer orientation — August 2026
Start the path to fostering shelter animals in Denver. Monthly Saturday orientation for ages 18+, includes 30-min specialized training and virtual home inspection process.
Why we picked this
Fostering a shelter animal through summer's end is practical and meaningful — the August orientation is the entry point, with the actual foster commitment as flexible as your schedule allows.
Denver Animal Shelter foster volunteers attend the same monthly orientation as general volunteers (10am–noon on Saturdays), plus an additional 30-minute specialized foster training. The process also includes a virtual home inspection to confirm your space is suitable for fostering.
Foster volunteers are required to be 18 or older, pass a background check, and commit to fostering at least once every six months. The flexibility of the schedule makes fostering practical even for busy people — you take an animal when you have the capacity.
Apply through the link above. The application portal opens approximately two weeks before each orientation — aim for late July to secure a spot for August 8.
