Why we picked this

The morning kitchen shift is one of the few volunteer experiences where you're actually cooking for your neighbors — chopping, stirring, baking — not just sorting or stuffing envelopes. Three hours, and the meals are already in the fridge before lunch.

You’ll join a kitchen crew preparing medically tailored meals for Denver neighbors living with serious illness — people who need the right nutrition but often can’t cook for themselves. The work is hands-on: chopping vegetables, blending soups, scooping portions, packaging meals. Staff leads the shift, and new volunteers get oriented on arrival.

Come dressed for kitchen work: closed-toe shoes, a shirt with sleeves, and tie back long hair. Hats are required (Project Angel Heart provides them if you don’t have one). Hundreds of morning slots are available from now through August 2026, so the scheduling is flexible. Orientation is required before your first shift — see the volunteer portal to book that first.

The kitchen is at 4925 Moline St in Denver, with free parking on-site. Shifts run exactly three hours and start on time, so plan accordingly. If you want to volunteer as a group, Angel Heart welcomes teams of multiple people in the same shift.
